4. In heaven an angel is nobody in part icu lar.
5. Garden s are no tm ade by singing“O h, howbeau t ifu l”and sit t ing in the shade. (R. Kip ling)
by do ing. . .
sth. is no t m ade by do ing sth.
6. Ep itaph: a belated advert isem en t fo r a lineof good that has perm anen t ly discon t inued.
译者对a line of good (一系列善行) 的语义含义理解有误:
7. Snob s talk as if they had bego t ten theirow n ancesto rs.
8. “Wom an begin s by shou t ing ‘Don’t!Stop ! ’to a m an’s advance and‘Don’t stop ! ’toh is ret reat. ”
W ilde 的名句“Wom an begin sby resist ing a m an’s advances and ending by b lock5 9 翻译中的措辞、语气与句式重心问题.
ing h is ret reat. Stop ! Don’tstop ! Stop !
”9. W hen a wom an dresses to k ill, the vict imis ap t to be t im e.

A n elegan t handw rit ing, like the elegan t handthat w ro te it. I pu sh it to one side and had ano therdrink.
I pu shed th ings around the desk I looked at no th ing I looked at no thing
是two ho rsem en (骑手) , two tou rist s(旅游者) 还是two mo to rcyclist s (摩托车手) ? (类似的情况英译汉也不时可见, 如: I’ve f in ished the book.
W e (They) t raveled ten thousand li on ho rseback.
The egg w as b roken again st a rock
13: It is ju st like st rik ing an egg again st arock.
